Cheap Flights
Skyscanner – Perfect for comparing flight options and prices. It pulls the cheapest deals it can find on the web. Prices can fluctuate from site-to-site, but from my experience, Skyscanner has always found the lowest-priced deals.
Cheap Accommodation
Booking.com – They compare prices from all major booking sites, so worth checking on here first – discounted hotels worldwide
Agoda – Best for Asia/ India – they have a lot more listings for these places, and better prices.
Airbnb – Airbnb lists homes, apartments, and homestays in the area. You usually speak directly with the owner, and it often works out cheaper than staying in hotels.
HostelWorld – Great for finding the most popular hostels in your area! Also lists B&Bs, Guesthouses, and sometimes Boutique Hotels.
Couchsurfing – Best for free accommodation! Not only this, it’s a community for like-minded travellers, where everyone shares local community events and it’s a great way to meet people in different cities.
Package Deals
Lastminute.com – My go to for lazy booking at the last minute! This site will find the best deals for flights and accommodation. I find this best for long-weekend getaways.
Inland Transport
12go.asia – This site is best for booking trains, buses, ferries, and transfers. If you’re in India use this site for trains – it’s the only site with legit indian train tickets. They have a partnership with IRCTC (Indian rail site).
RedBus – Specific to India – fantastic for booking night buses as it gives you company ratings and pictures of the bus you’ll be travelling (no horrible surprises!)
Seat61 – This site gives you information on train services in different countries – train routes, how to check times, how to buy tickets etc.
Uber – LOADS of places have Uber, especially India – great to avoid taxi scams! (also great for ordering in food!)
Grab – This is best for a lot of places in SE Asia, especially Thailand and Vietnam (also great for ordering in food!)
Pass – This is specific to Cambodia – again, great to avoid taxi scams as prices are set.
Travel Prerequisites
Vaccinations
Fit For Travel – A UK NHS website. Being from the UK I wholeheartedly trust a medical website set up by the NHS. This site was also recommended to me by my nurse, it shows you all the suggested vaccinations for an area.
Insurance
Allianz – We ended up going with this insurance as it was very cheap, covered all grounds, and was recommended by Martin Lewis money saving expert.
World Nomads – Their coverage is great and easily extendable. This site has come recommended by several friends and almost every blog we’ve read!
Visas
iVisa – Use this site to find out what visas you need for any country around the world. iVisa charges an admin fee, but does all the work for you and allows you to submit it way ahead of time, which lots of government websites don’t allow. It’s your buffer so you don’t deal directly with the government site and they assure your documents are all sorted.
Other Useful Sites
STA Travel – Best site for under 30s discounts.
Intrepid Travel – Best for small group tours to get you off the beaten track.
Grassroots – Best website to find legit volunteering in different countries. Also great information on volunteering schemes you should avoid.
