What to do & Where to go in the Pink City
As you already know, India is colourful, so why wouldn’t you find a whole city dedicated to one colour?! Jaipur was the first planned out city of India, and pink was chosen because it means “hospitality”. At the time the King and Queen were visiting, so what better way to show their hospitality than to paint the whole city pink?! Around the centre of Jaipur you’ll find the most pink, the perfect photo opportunity and also really fun to see. This guide will share some fun facts and fun experiences for you to try in the Pink City.

The 7 Gates of the Pink City
Jaipur is a walled city built in 1727, with seven different beautifully designed gates that provide access to the Old City. A great way to explore and see as much as possible is to take a map and cross off each gate as you come to it! Each gate looks pretty similar BUT they’re access points to much diversity across the city! They also make for a great pic (and they’re free). Arrive REALLY early if you want a chance of a picture with a gate, the traffic gets MENTAL, it took us a while to just get a picture of the gate without a car, let alone be actually in the picture.
A Trip to the Movies
Take a day out from the sightseeing and why not watch a Bollywood movie?! A must do whilst you’re in India, even if you don’t understand it! And why not do it in style at this vintage cinema in the Pink City! It’s a large single-screen movie theatre so we advise pre-booking, and forget the popcorn, this place is very famous for its tasty samosas (or have both because whats a movie without popcorn…)

The Hawa Mahal (Obviously)
We didn’t enter the Hawa Mahal or ‘Palace of the Winds’ but just the view of this iconic site from outside was breathtaking. Royal women never appeared in public so the Palace gave them the opportunity to view everyday life through the beautifully ornate windows. This tourist attraction is open 9am-5pm and costs Rs.200 for foreigners and Rs.50 for locals. Check out oursightseeing guide for a great viewpoint location.

The Pink City from Above
Grab a bite to eat and take in the views from above at Hotel Sweet Dreams rooftop restaurant. Mind you don’t miss the hidden, side street entrance – though locals are always around and happy to help with directions. Relax with a beer and waiter recommended snacks. Let the staff take care of your every need.
